Top Tens: Video Games

This the first part of a list of what I consider to be the best video games of all time. I'm making this list extra long and splitting it into two parts because it is too long.

18: The Legend of Zelda (NES)

Truly a classic, The Legend of Zelda changed video games forever. Up until it's release, games told you what to do, gave you clear goals, showed you the way. With LoZ you were plopped in the middle of nowhere, given a sword by an old man in a cave and then it was up to you to figure out what to do. No other game gave you the sense of adventure that this game did, which is why it will always be one of the most important games in history.

17: Final Fantasy VII
Back in the days of yore, the Final Fantasy series was great. Not so much now, but theu used to be awesome. And no Final Fantasy was as great as FF7. It had an amazing story, and brought forth emotions in me that I didn't think video games could bring forth. Not to mention it's one of the only video games to have a decent movie based on it.

16: Super Mario World

By far my favorite game in the Mario franchise, this game brought so much to the table and totally blew all of its predecessors out of the water as the greatest Mario game of all time. It had so many new things, and is a really wondrous and lovely game.

15: Minecraft

Minecraft is one of the most well known games made in the 2000s. It brought forth the popularity of an entire new genre of video game, and is one of the most popular games of all time. The best part of this game is the open-endedness of it. You really have a sense of being able to do create whatever you want to, which is really what makes this game so fantastic.

14: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I'm going to completely honest, I chose this game from The Elder Scrolls series because it's the only one I've played. It is the newest installment in the series, and is one of the best looking games ever. It also has a half decent story, which I always find respectable in video games.

13: Portal 2

Choosing between this game and its predecessor was hard. But, it would have ended up being this no matter what. Portal 2 was funny, it was atmospheric, it was challenging, and it was just a fun game. The level design was fantastic, and it pulled off being a multiplayer puzzle game.

12: World of Warcraft

WoW is pretty much the most successful MMO of all time. I personally don't play it anymore, primarily because I can't afford it. But, once you get past the whole subscription thing, it is a really great game. It has decent storylines, for an MMO, looks great, and is fun to play, especially if you have friends to play it with. I didn't learn how much the whole playing with other people thing improved the game until I had been playing it for about six months, which was unfortunate.

11: Banjo Kazooie

Banjo Kazooie is a very creative game. It takes something that people usually don't like in games and makes it fun, which is admirable. It has one of the best overworlds in gaming history, and is just fun to play.

10: Spore

I was on the fence about only putting this at number 12. Spore is the very first video game I ever played, so it holds a special place in my heart. Spore is a game in which you control a species as it evolves and adapts, and it is amazing. One of the most creative games I know of, and I believe it can be enjoyed by anyone.

9: Sid Meier's Civilization V

Ah, Civilization. It is quite possibly the best strategy game of all time. And, in my opinion, Civ V is the best in series. It is the newest game, and is bigger than all the past ones, and in my opinion better. It's much smoother, and just overall more enjoyable than the past games.

So that's the first part of my Top 20 best video games. Come back next Tuesday for 10-1.

  1. I hope you've played Civ. City Rome. That game is my entire childhood starting from the age of around 5 or 6. IT IS SO MUCH FUN.
